Discipline in the Electronic Age

Discipline has always been one of life’s challenges but now it has been made more difficult due to the avalanche of electronic gadgetry that surrounds the large majority of people living on this planet today.

When contemplating serious meditation it is paramount that we set aside a period of time each day and make it special. Setting up a place in a quiet room will help also. Books to inspire such as the poems of Rumi or the Bhagavad Gita can provide the correct attitude as they will stimulate a hunger for Truth.

Before we start any new adventure our days are completely full, not necessarily with important things, but full all the same. We therefore have to replace some of the unimportant activities with those that we deem more important. Only you can make those choices, however, we would urge you to consider how you use “The New Technology”. In your relationship with it, are you the slave or the master? Many people have unfortunately succumbed to the digital stimuli and become unconscious of the effects it has on them and the time they spend responding to its demands.

It is good to step back from your daily life and become aware of the way you allocate time. In doing so many of you will find much of it is wasted. It is this wasted time that you should embrace and use it to discover the True Essence of your very Being.

In days of old it was expected that anyone that was serious about Spirituality would lead a monastic life. It was simple and structured to provide the perfect environment to pursue contemplation and of course meditation. What is being offered by the Hierarchy today is to remain in the World in order to learn life’s lessons and at the same time transcend the World through the practice of Spiritual Meditation. In some ways the Path has been made easier but in other ways more difficult as we need self-discipline and self-organisation.

The Spiritual Hierarchy have stated that a truly disciplined and dedicated person that learns the art of meditating should be able to Attain Liberation in 2/3 years. For this to happen the seeker should also have the correct attitude; they should not just see a State of Consciousness as a personal achievement but as a way of serving others. The only true Happiness occurs when you forget your small self and Give to those around you.

Serve and you will Receive
